Born in Ekatarinburg, Russia, Ilya Itin was awarded top honors in the William Kapell Competition, First Prize in the Casadeus Competition and in 1996, the Gold Medal and all top prizes at the Leeds International Piano Competition.
Conductors he has collaborated with include Sir Simon Rattle, Jarvi, Dohnanyi, Kreizberg, Sinaisky, Polyansky, Pletnev and Noll with orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony, National Symphony and London Philharmonic, China National Symphony, Bilkent Symphony in Ankarra, Symphony Orchestra of India, and the Mexico City Philharmonic.
Itin has been a much lauded soloist on tours throughout the capitals of Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. He will open the 2010 Masters Series of the Miami International Piano Festival with an historic set of two solo recitals of Russian piano music featuring an all-Prokofiev program in the afternoon and the 24 Preludes of Rachmaninov on the same evening. The recitals will be distributed on the VAI label as a live DVD recording later this year.
